Review : Nautilus - Pneumatic Air Horn from Stebel
In India, you cannot drive without horns. I mean automobile horns. Most of the automobiles are factory fitted with normal horns, which are sufficient for just 10 or 15 feet ahead. And the sound level may not be up to the level, that fellow travellers ahead of you can hear properly. So you need to end up fitting extra horns from HELLA, BOSCH, ROOTS or STEBEL.

Nautilus is a compact pneumatic horn. It is not a pipe-horn (as popularly called in india), but a modified -compact version of so called pipe horns. I was looking for one pair of extra horns which can scream at atleast 100 dB (to drive in Indian highways) level. I stumbled upon Nautilus from STEBEL, the esteemed italian horn manufacturers. Nautilus is little big than conventional horns and two versions are available. One is Nautilus and other is Nautilus Compact. Nautilus compact is designed to fit within compact spaces, ideally suitable for bikes and mini-cars.
I tested the Nautilus compact at GP Road chennai. I was stunned, when the shop owner pointed the horn towards the road and connected the wires. Damn ! that was LOUD ! damn loud !! you wont believe that! I was totally happy and ordered to fit that in my Alto. I asked about fitting a pair of Nautilus and the shop owner (G.P Road, Mahavir Automobiles) immediately said "no no.. pls dont do that. A pair of nautilus will scare the hell out!" :-)
Nautilus Compact costs Rs.800+ (fitting charges extra). It requires 12V power supply and an additional relay to support the load. So your total budget may go upto Rs.1000. But thats one damn horn that will throw other horns away.
Btw, Nautilus from Stebel is a pneumatic horn and as per law, pneumatic horns are strictly prohibited inside cities. So use the horn only for highway travelling and be a responsible driver. :-)
